Spring 2011 Couture Show Highlights

By Amanda Del Duca

Here are my favorites from the first of the Spring couture shows happening this week in Paris. I actually prefer RTW, but the couture shows are usually very beautiful and a nice little fashion escape.

For Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld showed a super light and seriously glitzy show. Style.com is raving about it, but honestly I liked last year’s couture show better with those Rococo heels. Uh, ya. Although here is a good little quote about the incredible craftsmanship involved in the collection.

How do they have enough patience to do it?” he wonders about the hand-work of the ‘petit-mains’ who have laboured over these exquisite examples of the couture art and craft. “Some of these tops have 400,000 pearls and crystals. Can you imagine? I couldn’t do it for five minutes.

Lagerfeld to Telegraph’s Hilary Alexander.

John Galliano for Christian Dior was a haute, theatrical showcase. Karlie Kloss kills it in the opening look (red coat above) and the entire collection is something fierce.

Armani Prive was shiny, slippery, wet and totally fuckawesome!! I’m completely amazed at his use of organza, like water in a puddle.  Olivia Wilde sat front row, which has me wishing Armani made the costumes for Tron.

So, which look will GAGA  rock first?!
