REWIND
Behold!
CaptureFashion’s latest editorial starring Alexandra Palmer by David Lundblad. This shoot came together so well – it was a true pleasure to organize and execute with the CapFash “A” team.

The idea for Rewind started with a hurried phone conversation between myself and stylist Rachael Russell. It went a little something like this:
RR: Do you have any VHS tapes? You know, the old ones for a VCR.
AD: Um no. I don’t even own DVDs. Why?
RR: I have an idea.
AD: Right. Well, let’s do studio on Monday.
A couple days later, Rachael was sending me photos of sparkle tops reworked on mannequins and another idea for square acrylic bangles. RR enlisted aspiring designer, Elijah Salver, to construct the two VHS tape embellished tops and the acrylic bangles for Monday’s shoot. Eli also assisted on Monday’s set, and he is a total DIY badass! He cut the bangles using a heated can of tomatoes and was a genius with a stapler. Definitely look forward to working with Eli again in the future.
After seeing where Rachael was going with her style vision, I started collecting inspiration images and writing down ideas to create a story/mood for this VHS tape and clear bangles idea.. Always my first step in the creative process, my tumblr.…I know I’m really pushing my own tumblr recently…..truth though, it’s every photo I’m obsessed with right now. I always find different ideas in the same photos depending on the shoot I have in mind. It’s all about perspective.
For this shoot, there was no real “story,” so I wanted to make it more about the details. Great clothes and accessories were in the works; next, I needed hair and makeup. In a perfect storm of timing, Sheenon Olson was flying into Miami from LA for some work and had Monday evening free. I always want to take advantage of the uber talented Sheenon, so I brought up doing something with pink, blue or lavender hair.
Once I had more of an idea about the clothes and hair, I was able to start working with David on how to actually shoot this thing. We had recently shared a Vogue Paris editorial with Arizona Muse shot by Inez & Vinoodh and it instantly came to mind. I love the neon colors in the shadow and the white studio backdrop. David agreed it was amazeballs, but how to do it? With some tests and youtube tutorials it worked with one big light and different color gels on light and flash. For more info contact David Lundblad here.
To finish off the glam work I painted a set of nails and confirmed makeup maven Marissa Nemes for Monday evening. Rachael and I worked with Marissa previously for an 82Go water commercial. I was excited to work with Marissa on something more edgy – so glad we got an opening in her busy schedule. Contact Marissa for makeup artist needs.
The final prep detail was casting our model. The lovely Jerry Chery from NEXT booked us the beautiful Alexandra Palmer, who is as sweet as can be.
Bravo to the whole team and thank-you! xx
